Education & Research
A trusted choice to lead the way in research, education and bioscience.
Research is an important part of the Scott & White mission to "provide personalized, comprehensive, high-quality health care enhanced by medical education and research." The results of our studies lead directly to improved patient care and serve as intellectual reward for the investigators and their colleagues.
Although research at Scott & White is a product of our mission and clinical practice heritage, we also encourage and support basic laboratory research with potential clinical promise. We are the principal clinical research and education campus for the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. Our collaboration with the college provides us with the opportunity to continue our research efforts beyond our walls.
Our recent initiatives to expand and enlarge Scott & White's research program have been focused in key areas that can create a significant impact on the practice of medicine. They include concentration in the areas of cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, imaging, metabolism, neuroscience, oncology, toxicology and women's health. We’re also a proud partner in the state's first Health and Bioscience District.
Some of our research and education highlights include:
- Highest performing students on licensing exams in the state of Texas
- One of the oldest residency programs in Texas, started in the 1920’s
- A four-year medical school campus for Texas A&M HSC College of Medicine
- Academic alignment with the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System

Education
Since Scott & White opened its doors, education has been part of the cornerstone of our mission. Dr. Scott and Dr. White believed in progress through education, reason and research. That’s why we offer educational programs and training opportunities in the areas of medicine, nursing, research and allied health sciences. From medical and graduate education to residencies and fellowships to allied health programs, we offer many ways to learn and grow our professionals’ talents.
The partnership between Scott & White and the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine (TAMHSCCOM) has received national recognition as one of the finest Colleges of Medicine. Medical students complete their first two years of basic science study on the TAMHSCCOM College Station campus. For their last two years, they receive exposure and guidance on the Scott & White campus. Students are able to gain experience in the clinical sciences of pediatrics, family practice, internal medicine, psychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology and general surgery. Also affiliated with Scott & White and TAMHSCCOM are the Central Texas Veteran's Health Care System, Darnall Army Community Hospital and Driscoll Children's Hospital.
